Life is rolling fast. And everyday seems even more like an adventure. Four weeks out from Ironman and my body is telling me I must not take this time lightly. Everything I do must be for good reason. No junk miles, no junk calories, no time wasting.
The achilles this morning isn't really much better than yesterday. I've strapped on an ice pack while I sit with my morning coffee. Today's workout will only be a long swim and we'll be taking one day at a time. In trying to figure out the how and why, the only thing I can come up with is that my running shoes need replaced, and I'll have to pass on just slipping into the old flip flops. As I haven't had any achilles pain leading up to this past weekend's initial flare-up, I have had a hint of plantar fascia and hamstring tightness at the knee, both only on the right side. So perhaps it's related to inadequate stretching in addition to footwear. Whatever it is, it must be changed. I will NOT be brought down by injury!
So today's Memorial Day. And even though I only work part-time right now, it's nice to have the day off. A couple weeks ago I picked up additional hours at the Y, so that I open Tuesday through Friday and random Mondays. Setting the alarm for 3:45 am means going to bed real early, or feeling miserable the next day on lack of sleep. So with my day off, I'll be spending some quality time at the pool and beginning on my medical school applications. Yes, it's finally that time. Applications open June 1st, and my goal is to have them complete within the first week. This will be a very busy week. Like I said, life is rolling fast right now...
